Levelized Billing

No one likes surprises

That dreaded high bill: You get at least one or two a year. The weather heats up or cools down and... Boom! up goes the bill.

Wouldn't it be nice if your electric bills were more predictable?

How Levelized Billing works

Levelized bills are based on a rolling average of your kilowatt hour use, not your bill total.

We average the kilowatt hours on your current bill with those on your past eleven months of service. That kilowatt hour average is used to calculate your charges rather than the actual usage for that month.

As a result, your monthly bills are not identical, but they will vary much less. During peak use times, like summer and winter, they will be lower than in the past, and during the low use months of May and October they will be slightly higher than you're used to.

But overall they will vary only by a few dollars higher or lower each month. Most important, unlike traditional "budget billing" there is no "catch up" month.

To be eligible:

  • you must be a current URE member,
  • receive service under Rate Schedule A for farm and residential single phase service, and
  • have accumulated an eleven month historical record of normal electric consumption at your present location.
